Bashful Brother Oswald and Deacon Brumfield CDs

I have added some CDs of Dobro masters to my product
line here at the Steel Guitar Zone.

Three new Cds to be exact. The first one to be featured
is by none other than Dobro legend Bashful Brother Oswald!
This is a CD that includes two fantastic instrumental
albums on one disc...26 songs in all featuring Os'
Dobro out front along with his longtime partner from
the Roy Acuff band, Charlie Collins, and others.

In addition, I am also featuring an incredible CD
by Deacon Brumfield. His recordings are etreeeemly
hard to find and I have 2 albums reissued onto one CD.
He is a real Dobro legend. Don't miss out on these
22 songs.

If that wasn't enough, I also have Bev King's new
CD called "Resophonic Roses". She plays 18 songs
with the Dobro as the lead voice. Really nice
playing.

Several people have asked how to find my videos on Youtube.
There are a couple of ways. The first is to simply put my name in the search box and the list of videos will come up. Or, the better way is simply to go to my channel: http://www.youtube.com/resojoe

Good Things come to an end eventually

After an 8 year run, (a lifetime in big band years) The Dave Stahl Sacred Orchestra is calling it quits. I have been playing french horn with the band for the past two years and am sad to see it come to an end.
We have played church services all over southeast PA and even down into MD and NJ. No small feat for a 22 piece band! The Sacred orchestra worked about 2 to 3 Sundays each month. It was (and is) a top notch group of musicians put together by trumpet player and musical director Dave Stahl.

Our last gig is this coming Sunday December 23 2007 at the New Hanover United methodist Church in Gilbertsville, PA. Go here for directions. We will be performing two services of continuous music along with a 50 person choir.
We'll be performing many charts from the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir on this performance so if you live anywhere remotely close, you should come! What a way to begin the Christmas season!

Happy Birthday Robert Johnson

Today is the birthday of one of the most influential and at the same time mysterious musicians of modern times. Born in 1911 on this day, Robert Johnson has left a legacy of music that to this day, musicians around the world consider one of the greatest catalog of blues songs ever recorded.

Robert recorded 29 songs in his short career and they have been covered by numerous musicians and bandsfrom blues, country and rock. Very little is known about Robert the man but we do have some first hand accounts from David 'Honeyboy' Edwards and Robert 'Jr' Lockwood. Both of these men actually spent some time traveling with Robert as he worked as a traveling bluesman in the 1920s and 30s.

It has been said that Robert was a musical genius and able to play a song only having heard it one time. You can in fact hear several of his influences in his playing such as Charlie Patton, Blind Blake, Lonnie Johnson and others.

Robert was a master playing the guitar. He used several different tunings including open G and A. He used a slide to get an erie vocal like sound such as on 'Come On In My Kitchen' and he also was a master finger picker as can be heard on other songs such as on 'Steady Rollin Man'. All in all, when listening to Robert it sounds like there are 2 guitar players!

Well, Happy Birthday Mr Johnson and thank you for your music. The world would certainly not be the same without it!

By the way, be sure to keep checking your email because later this week I will be announcing 2 new book and CD courses of Delta style blues guitar! Stay posted.

Jam On,

Joe Stoebenau

P.S. Play the blues on your lap style Dobro right now! I show you how to sound so funky you'll sound like you have mud up to your neck!
